how to get color in 3d studio max?

I have .3ds files that I know have color in them, but how do I enable the colors?

1. I think by colors you are talking about the materials. There may be a few reasons for this. if you didn't render the scene then you will not see any of the materials most of the time they are not in the view ports even in the shaded ones. To render all you have to do is push the button on the top tool bar that looks like a tea pot. If you do this and you get a message that says material is missing that means that the path to the materials is different from the computer it was coped from. If some of them are bit maps you will have to copy the bitmaps and put them on your computer then show the path. You do this threw the material editor. Alot of this stuff you can learn threw the help it is Farly simple. I hope this helped I'm not sure if I'm answering the right question.
