Whats the best computer to run graphic programs...ex: 3d studio max?

i want to buy a new computer for a decent price that can run 3d studio max, photoshop cs2, as well as other 3d programs...my computer was custom made like 8 years ago, so i can run 3d max, but not well...simple rendering is fine, but animation is out of the question....sooooo, what computer should i look at for this type of application, that i can buy for maybe...700-1200 bucks....? also something that is a desktop, and can be upgraded later on if nessicary?

1. A Mac and you would be looking at $1200 - $2000 to get decent performance. MacPro would be ideal but might be outside your budget at $2499 unless you're in business. Macs run Windows too. http://www.apple.com/macpro/

3. i'm with the rest of the group, using a mac is tons better in writing, viewing and producing graphics as well as producing, making high end video games. but as was stated, you will pay a few bucks for a good system. you can get a decent ibm type but you will pay out the butt for it but not get the coolness of the animation like in the animation films like happy feet, or even the older movies like the lion king types. this is why i have a mac and 3 pc's, one for creativity (which i lack ) and the others for working.
