How do I block unwanted noises for my mic to pickup?

I have a audio technica ATR 55 stereo condenser video mic on my accessory shoe on the camcorder and if I even make the slightest finger rub on the camera's plastic or on the zoom lever it picks up an annoying "swoop" sound. Are there any better mics out there (50 buck range) that have a maybe a stand that soaks up vibrations or is there a practical trick for the mic i already have?
