Are rechargeable batteries OK for TV/DVD/Stereo Remote controls? (NiMH or other)?
I am looking to use rechargeable AA and AAA batteries in my TV, DVD and Stereo remote controls (trying to both save $$ in the long term and produce less trash). I believe that most NiMH batteries are designed for high power, quick use situations, like digital cameras, camcorders, portable CD players, etc. I am concerned that the batteries will lose charge over time, as remote controls use very little power and are only used for minutes a day. Does anyone have any technical expertise to provide suggestions? Thanks........

- I used to buy new batteries almost every time I went shopping--then I decided to bite the bullet and try the rechargeables. One of the smartest things as a consumer that I've ever done. So, to answer your question: absolutely, yes, they're ok. I have been using rechargeable batteries for years, specifically for the five remote controls in my living room. I haven't noticed any battery charge loss whatsoever, and even if that were to happen, it wouldn't be by much--and I always have four spare AAs sitting in the charger, which I quickly just exchange. It's quicker than going to the store--and ridiculously cheaper, in the long run. Just beware of some of the rechargeable "D" batteries--I read that they actually have the same power as the "C" batteries, just in a larger casing. Make sure you read the fine print. Also, try to get a charger that fits both AAs and AAAs--I had to buy two separate ones.
- rechargeable batteries=love
- I would say yes buy i prefer just putting in brand new batteries because its cheap and you dont have to wait for it to charge but thats just me . . . . . . . . .=]
- ya
- I have used them for the purposes you mention for years and never had a problem.
- Yes, rechargeable batteries are very good, they save you loads of money, i have been using them for years! You may pay 5-10 doallers per package, but it is worth it, they only need replacement ever one or two years!
- You can use them because it's a battery and they won't lose charge. I've been using the same rechargable batteries for a year now on a remote control. So don't worry.
- You can use them, but considering the cost of rechargeable batteries vs the fact that a cheapo battery will last well over a year in a remote control, I use the cheapo ones for the tv controls and whatnot and use the rechargeable ones for the camera and the music player and stuff that runs through them.
- Yeah, you're good to go on using NiMH batteries on remotes. The environment and I thank you. I use them in our remotes, Wiimotes, and digital cameras. They provide as much power, if not more, of that of the alkaline variety. They just provide the convenience of being rechargeable. The reason for using them in high draw devices, like digital cameras, is because those high drain devices suck the life out of batteries when the flash and display are used. I have also moved to filling many of my daughter's favorite toys with NiMH batteries. No ill effects yet. :D Here is a link to batteries explained...
