how is the best way to clean electronics buttons that have been made sticky by soda that has dried and jelled?

camera shutter, car stereo, etc

1. moist towel. do not use paper. I use a rag and spray glass cleaner on the rag to clean my electronic stuff. I have never had a problem doing it that way.
2. Isopropyl alcohol. I also read somewhere that if you drop your cellphone in water you can dry it out by submersing it in isopropyl alcohol then after it evaporates your phone will work fine.
