What are some good 3d modeling programs that I can download for free?

I want to get into 3d modeling and I was wondering if there are any free programs I could use to get my feet wet before I go spend all my saving on a program.

1. Blender and Anim8tor.. Blender is the best though

3. Google have a simple one, with a tutorial etc. Being Google, it's pretty simple to use. http://sketchup.google.com
