Making either a city or mountain out of duct tape or other household items. Help?
I need to make a 3D model for a science experiment about blizzards. I can't get anything from the store to do it with, so I'm stuck with household stuff. I thought about building either one out of duct tape, would that be good? If you can help me, please tell me how to build either out of duct tape, or any other thing you'd find around the house.

- well, guess duct tape would be my choice and make a mountain. News paper base and just start wrapping in tape to make the shape, you could paint the tape, spray paint if you have it.....if you have crayons that you can melt and pour over that can also work...don't use pans but use a can and place it in a pan with water and be careful when you pour it. You can cut up a bar of white soap and use a small amount of water in a blender to whip it into a spreadable mixture for the snow. Hope this gives you some kind of ideas.
- I used Papier-mâché for lots of school projects. It's lots of fun, but it's pretty messy. Here are a few ideas: If you were to make a city, you could use empty tissue boxes, papier-mâché, popsicle sticks, old toy cars, and other little knick-knacks and doodads that you have laying around your house. If you were to make a mountain, you could make the basic structure of the mountain out of styrofoam or something, and cover it in papier-mâché. To make Papier-mâché, just get strips of tissue paper, paper towels, or old newspapers, and dip them in a mixture of water and flour. (use enough flour so that you are not able to see through the mixture, but enough water so that it is fairly runny, but not super watery or too thick.) After you dip the strips in the mixture, kinda 'squeegee off' the extra home-made glue with your finger and your thumb, but make sure it's still wet enough to sick to the surface that you are Papier-mâché-ing. (is that even a verb? lol). If you are using tissue paper, skip the squeegee process (it will fall apart) and just let it drip a little before applying it. well, that's about all i've got. i hope it helped a little. remember to USE YOUR IMAGINATION! and have fun! :)
- I'd suggest making the mountain out of straws (glue them together, obvisouly), then wrap them in the tape. I'd use brownish tape for the entire thing, and then wrap white tape on the top. For the city, use cardboard boxes, or cut the boxes into smaller pieces. use paint to make windows, doors, ect. For grass, cut up graeen paper. If it's winter, use a large sheet of white paper. For trees, jus use brown for trunks and branches, and depending on the season, use dark green for summer, light green for spring, and yellow, orange and red for fall. Don't use any paper for winter.
- How about a giant snow globe - use a quart jar, or half gallon - biggest you have. Anyhow create your city or mountain - I think a city would be easier - use monopoly houses - glue with water resistant glue - to the inside lid of jar - fill jar with water - add glitter, or moth ball flakes - anything you have to represent snow - invert lid on jar - tape securely with your duct tape - turn right side up and you have a mobile blizzard. You could make city with fake astro turf for lawns, miniature cars from old race sets. etc. have fun
