- Firstly it is sill often easier to push around clay than it is metaballs, bones or whatever. Nowadays such a model can be easily scanned in 3D to create a solid or skin for manipulation or structuring in a computer. In this way clay models may be quickly produced and presented to those with less skill or time to absorb a computer based design and then once selected it can incorporated with speed. Secondly there are still many more artists who are highly takented in sculpture than there are computer skilled artists. A good studio workflow might depend more on good team of specialist than all-rounders. So it might end up more effective to have an additional tech minded person to efficiently translate a model into the production pipeline. The important thing is that the sculpture is great however it is achieved. Regards, Mike
