how do I change 3d studio max format models to maya format models?

- As long as you are just taking models from 3ds max to Maya, then export from 3ds as a .obj file and that should import to Maya fine with the cordinates in tact. I would do this with basic polygonal models before adding any smoothing or mapping. If you want to export an entire scene then you should look at downloading FBX import plugin (google it and it comes right up). After applying it to Max and Maya then you can export a scene out of 3ds max as a fbx format and into Maya under the same format.
