Maya or 3D Studio Max for game modeling?

I am trying to decide between buying Maya and 3D Studio Max. I will be using the program for modeling game object etc. I would like to know which is better for the job and what gives that program the edge over the other and would it be much difficult using the other to do the same job? Detailed answers please. Thanks

  1. maya
  2. I work for a company that uses both Maya, and 3D Studio Max on a daily basis. As an animator myself, I have found myself drawn to Maya for most of my assignments. However, that is not to say that 3DS Max doesn't have it's advantages. 3DS is usually talked about for its modeling capabilities, however, I've found that Maya has a UI that is much easier to understand, and to work with. If you're only going to be modeling, then perhaps 3DS is the way to go for you. On the other hand, if you're going to want to be able to use dynamic simulations such as cloth, and Maya Unlimited's nCloth feature is second to none, or other simulations along those lines; hair, fluid effects, and the like, then Maya is for you. Whichever option you take I would recommend the Platinum support if you get Maya, and the Discreet Subscription for 3DS, these are worth their weight in gold, hands down. Hope this helps.
  3. BUY? lol umm yeah i would go to Maya.. but do you have ANY modeling exp. ??? If you dont then good luck.. it's not easy!!!
