learning to 3d model?

I am 12 years old(but i am really good with computers)and i want to learn to 3d model. iI just started learning 4 days ago. I started learning with wigns3d. it was an easy program and had a small learning curve. I made a guitar in it(Just the base, neck, and fretboard). All i used for it was, the move commands(xyz), scale x/y/z and taper for the fretboard. All the very basic stuff. I want to learn how to model better now. I noticeed most people dont model like i do. For a guitar, i start out with i square for the base. I scale it on all the axises and then i create more verticies on al the sides and connect them. Then i go to the line editor and i move all the lines on the axises to make it in the shape of the base. Is that normal? I have the trial for 3ds max, it is great but i dont have the money... But still what are some good tutorials for it(basic stuff?)Also is blender good. I know its hard, i just learned the basics of it. What are some good tutorials for that?
