AutoCad 3D Modelling?
I've got Autocad 3D modelling & need to render a sphere to look like the earth, have a picture on my computer that i need to put onto the sphere, searched everywhere on how to do it, but am getting no where. I'm a complete beginner at this programme, well the modelling side, just getting to grips with the drawing side, so any help in laymen's terms would be great thanks.

- Oh ok I thought you already knew what your were doing. Well I can't really help you out because I don't have the program on my computer. I know how to do it but I have to have autocad in front of me to tell you how. These links might help you out. http://www.dailyautocad.com/autocad/122/ http://www.dailyautocad.com/autocad/creating-render-material-in-autocad-2/ http://www.dailyautocad.com/autocad/creating-render-material-in-autocad-3-mapping/ Different website same stuff. http://www.we-r-here.com/cad/tutorials/level_3/3-9.htm http://www.we-r-here.com/cad/tutorials/level_3/3-13.htm http://www.we-r-here.com/cad/tutorials/level_3/3-14.htm
- Hi, I'm not sure if you will get a realistic result because in Autocad you do not get the level of control over the material mapping that you do with programs like Max. But, here is the general outline: From the 'view' drop down select 'render' and then 'materials'. This will launch the material editor. Select the 'create new material' button (globe with a star burst). You will then be asked to name the material - do this and press OK. A new grey globe will appear in the material editor. You will know if it is the current material because it will have a yellow highlight around the box. In the materials 'diffuse map' section there is a select box. Click this and select the file you wish to use to colour you sphere - you may have to navigate you way to the folder in which the bitmap is saved. Once you have completed this select the object in you scene that you wish to apply the material to and click the 'apply material to object' button in the material editor (globe with and arrow pointing to the cube). Lastly you need to check the mapping style. On the right hand side of you screen you will see a number of tabs, one of these has a globe with a paint brush (it's called the 'materials control panel'). You need to check the style of maping is 'spherical'. The second icon from the left is the mapping style (default is 'planar'). You will need to click on the small black triangle in the lower right hand corner to access the other mapping styles and choose 'spherical'. The object will now render complete with material. Obviously there are many variables available in the creation and application of materials ready to render, but I have tried to outline the basics. I hope this helps. This solution is based on Autocad 2007.
